Event Details

The City of Seattle, Seattle-King County Public Health, and the American Red Cross of King & Kitsap County are pleased to invite you to attend the Faith-Based Forums!  These forums have been organized to create an opportunity for leaders/representatives of Faith-Based Organizations (FBO's) to come together with local government, service providers and emergency management to talk about being ready for a disaster in a community fellowship environment.

In any large scale emergency, faith-based organizations are often looked to by the community as trusted information resources as well as a means to obtain support. It benefits all of us to have these conversations before a disaster event and to have established relationships for when an emergency happens.

The forums will be in a conversation cafe style format (small groups with less formal dialog). The objectives will be to talk about what we can all do in the event of an emergency, promote relationship building, and to encourage participants to form lasting partnerships in order to strengthen their communities.  The following is a list of questions that will be discussed:

  • What role do you feel faith based organizations should play in the aftermath of a major disaster?
  • If a disaster occurred tomorrow, what would your congregation need? What would they expect you to provide for them? Can your organization meet the expectations of your congregation and your neighborhood?
  • What would you require to be confident that you could meet the needs or your congregation?
  • Would you like to continue engaging with the city and partners here and if so how?

Highlights of the forums will be:

  • Inspiring presentations
  • Engaging conversations and information sharing
  • Display of available community resources
  • Disaster product vendors on site
  • Disaster related giveaways
  • Food and beverages provided
  • And...it's all FREE!

Please join us for conversation, collaboration and community building!

If you or someone you needs any accomodations or interpretation to attend, please e-mail tracy.connelly@seattle.gov.
